Intermediate Sewing Skills

Intermediate Sewing Skills

Date/Time
15/06/2014 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Maria loves that this workshop gives sewers the chance to focus on the particular skills & techniques that they want to master.

This is a new set of workshops which incorporate the Dress Making Skills workshops that we used to run.

We have designed these workshops for those of you with previous experience on a sewing machine but who are telling us that you “just want to get a bit better”! We’ve been listening to what you have been asking for and have created a number of topics, each with a specific area of focus, for you to choose from.

We run a pick & mix approach to these workshops so you can decide what your personal focus will be on any of these workshop dates. You can pick your topic to attend just one of these workshops or create a mix of 2 or 3 topics and benefit from our multi-booking discount – please just let us know when you book.

Topic 1 – Dress Making – Getting Started with Commercial Patterns.
Bring a pattern & fabric of your choice & we’ll help you with measuring, adjusting the pattern to fit, pattern marking & cutting out.

Topic 2 – Dress Making – Following Commercial Patterns
Get help with the construction of your chosen pattern. This is an ideal follow on from topic 1 if you want to be guided through the whole process or if you just want help getting to grips with something you got stuck on at home.DSC_0008

Topic 3 – Mastering Zips

Practice the various methods for inserting zips & choose one of these methods to make a zipped purse to take away.

Topic 4 – Making RufflesDSC_0014
Learn how to create ruffles & add a ruffled trim to a simple tote bag to take home.

Topic 5 – Discovering French Seams

Discover the joy of using french seams whilst making a simple pair of PJ shorts.

Topic 6 – Bias Binding & PipingDSC_00052
You will learn how to make your own bias binding and how to create piping from this whilst making a small gadget case or tissue pouch.

Please give us a call if you have any questions or if there are any other techniques that you would like us to add to the mix.

Please tell us which topic/s you would like to focus on when you book & we will let you know if you need to bring anything with you. In most cases we are able to provide all the materials you will need except if your project require larger pieces of fabric or if you want to be able to use a fabric of your own choice.

We also keep you suitably refreshed & refueled with our great selection of loose leaf teas, freshly ground coffee and homemade cakes!
