Maria loves that with these professional touches you will be able to make bespoke cushions for your home that are better than any you could buy!
Skill level: capable sewer*
This is the perfect workshop for anyone who has been using a sewing machine to make simple craft projects or cushions & would now like to take this to the next level.
The workshop will include the following techniques:
- Machine appliqué
- Using a zipper foot
- Making piping & inserting it into a seam
- Inserting a lapped zip
At the end of the workshop you will leave with one completed cushion cover & the knowledge to make many more to co-ordinate with your home.
You may choose your square or rectangle cushion size (maximum 60cm square) & you will need to bring enough fabric to cover both sides + extra for overlaps & seams. You will also need to bring a matching zip of the same width & enough coordinating bias binding (25mm width) to wrap round 5 sides.
So for example, for a 40cm square cushion you will need:
- 1m of 115cm width fabric or 0.5m of 150cm width fabric
- a 40cm standard zip
- 2m of 25mm bias binding
Quilting cottons & lightweight furnishing fabrics are ideal for this project – cotton, linen or wool but please don’t choose anything too thick or textured as this would not be suitable for the techniques we will cover.
A wide selection of fabric remnants will be provided for you to choose from for your appliqué decoration.
Your particular fabric requirements can be clarified at the time of booking.
We will take a 30 min break half way through & tea & biscuits will be provided.

*Capable Sewer – for this workshop you will need to be comfortable with using a sewing machine to sew straight & zig-zag stitches & able to consistently follow a seam line as accuracy is required when inserting the piping & zip.
