Gemma made contact when she wanted to improve her sewing skills to be able to make her own costumes:

“I just really wanted to share a picture of my very first complete costume!!

Your lessons helped me become confident with my sewing and now I’m really comfortable. I really can’t thank you enough. I owe all my sewing creativity to you! Without your lessons I would never be able to create what I have. I recommend you to anyone that is interested in learning to sew. You’re awesome!   Thank you again.”

Tara got in touch after enjoying a Café Sewciety sewing party with friends:

“I made contact with Maria at the beginning of this year in order to schedule some 1-2-1 sewing classes. As a complete novice Maria very patiently and diligently taught me the basics of using my sewing machine. I have been going to Maria now for nearly a year on a fortnightly basis and her lessons are the highlight of my week. I have learnt so much and created some beautiful pieces including lavender filled bunting using Liberty fabric, a sewing machine cover, tissue holders, make up bags, bespoke cushions made for a friends 30th birthday and the list goes on. I can not recommend Maria highly enough for her patience, fantastic teaching skills and inspirational ideas for all my projects. Her studio is absolutely lovely and a great environment to learn in. If you have any doubt about your skills, just go for it as Maria will get you sewing competently before you know it!”

Jenny describes her sewing self in 5 words as a ‘childhood sewer wanting to re-learn’

“Having a vintage (old) machine I was almost getting to the point of thinking it was the machine causing all my problems – however a little patience and understanding I now have a much better relationship with my Sewing Machine! Having a set project (my little purse – I’m so proud of) made sewing much more enjoyable and allowed us to work though routine mistakes I had been making. I would definitely recommend Maria for anyone interested in learning or improving their sewing.”

Sue contacted me to ask for help with one of the stages of making a romper suit for her grand-daughter – copied from an existing garment (so no pattern or instructions to follow). I’ve seen a photo of Sue’s finished garment – it looks great!

“Thank-you for your help I really appreciated it and at such short notice! I now know how to make a placket..”

Claire describes her sewing self in 5 words as a  ‘Complete beginner needing hand holding’

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning to sew with Maria in her beautiful studio. As a novice, she has been really re-assuring in her teaching style and helped me identify suitable projects, always pushing me a little out of my ‘comfort zone’ without making things too complicated. She has inspired me to buy my own machine and start projects at home which I never thought I would have the confidence to do. Well done Maria!!”
