Maria loves that this workshop provides a relaxed & friendly environment to have a go at sewing!
Skill level: Beginner or Refresher
If you are a beginner wishing to learn the basics of sewing or if you would simply like to refresh old skills these 3 hour workshops are designed to cover a variety of basic machine and hand sewing skills.
The aim of these workshops is for you to have fun making something decorative to take home whilst gaining confidence in using a sewing machine and learning or developing the sewing skills that you most want to focus on.
If you are looking to build up your confidence & basic skill set you can book to attend 3 workshops & get a discount. This makes a great little sewing course with flexibility to book on to the workshop dates you can make over the next few months. You just need to confirm your first workshop date to make the booking.
Whether you choose to attend one or more we will help you to plan your workshop/s so that you get to try all the techniques that you are keen to learn, hone the skills that will be most useful to you and succeed in making the item/s you wish to make.
You get to choose your ‘make’ from our suggested projects below and we provide the tuition, patterns & all the materials you will require.
Selection A – Patchwork Cushion or Bunting (complete beginner or 1st workshop)
Make a patchwork cushion using 8 triangle patches and a simple envelope back (you’ll be amazed how many variations in pattern you can make) OR make a short string of bunting & get chance to practise straight seams, machine appliqué and sewing with bias binding.
Selection B – Tote Bag or Fabric Doorstop (refresher or 2nd workshop)
Choose between a reversible tote bag or fabric doorstop – more chance to practise straight seams, patchwork & machine appliqué plus add binding, pockets, buttonholes & covered buttons if you wish.
Selection C – Zipped Purse or Patchwork Pot Grabber (refresher or 3rd workshop)
This zipped purse project will give you chance to try out 2 methods for inserting a zip.
The pot grabber is a great way to work through all the stages of making a patchwork quilt in a quick & simple project.
Tea, coffee & biscuits will be provided.
