Intermediate Sewing Skills

27/04/2014 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This is a new set of workshops that we are still developing. It also incorporates our old Dress Making Skills workshops. Please give us a call if you have any questions.

Maria loves that this workshop gives sewers the chance to focus on the particular skills & techniques that they want to master.

These workshops are for those of you with previous experience on a sewing machine but who are telling us that you “just want to get a bit better”! We’ve been listening to what you have been asking for and have created a number of topics, each with a specific area of focus, for you to choose from.

We run a pick & mix approach to these workshops so you can decide what your personal focus will be on any of these workshop dates. You can pick your topic to attend just one of these workshops or create a mix of 2 or 3 topics and benefit from our multi-booking discount – please just let us know when you book.

Topic 1 – Bias Binding & Piping
You will learn how to make your own bias binding and how to create piping from this whilst making a small organiser or pouch.

Topic 2 – Mastering Zips
Practice the various methods for inserting zips & choose one of these methods to make a zipped pouch to take away.

Topic 3 – Dress Making – Getting Started with Commercial Patterns.
Bring a pattern & fabric of your choice & we’ll help you with measuring, adjusting the pattern to fit, pattern marking & cutting out.

Topic 4 – Dress Making – Following Commercial Patterns
Get help with the construction of your chosen pattern. This is an ideal follow on from topic 3 if you want to be guided through the whole process or if you just want help getting to grips with something you got stuck on at home.

Topic 5 – Alterations (coming soon)

If you let us know of any other techniques you would like to focus on we’ll do our best to add these to the list of topics for you to pick & mix from.

We also keep you suitably refreshed & refueled with our great selection of loose leaf teas, freshly ground coffee and homemade cakes!
